All loving, committed couples who wish to celebrate a religious wedding in the Christian tradition and meet the requirements for legal marriage in the State of Connecticut are invited to host their union at UCG. We perform weddings for members and non-members. We perform weddings for same-sex couples; and we perform marriages for persons of differing religious backgrounds. When you ask to be joined in marriage at United Church, our Pastor will meet with you for an initial informational session. The pastor will work with you during the counseling sessions to plan your service to best suit your personal style, needs and wishes.
Our historic (circa 1815) Meeting House and our (circa 1961) Parish House are both located in downtown New Haven, one on the New Haven Green and the other a block away within the Yale neighborhood. Part of our mission is to make our facilities available to community organizations and groups whose programs and objectives are compatible with the values and principles of our congregation. Our church has been an active force for social justice and human rights throughout its long history. Rental Fees start at $30/hour based on the space and equipment needed. We are an open and affirming church that actively supports LGBTQ issues. Our facilities host weddings, funerals, musical performances, lectures and forums and private group meetings. Rental rates are based on type of activity, duration of the event and which of our varied spaces is used.
A fixture of the upper New Haven Green and Located at 270 Temple St. at the corner of Elm St, this historic classic revival brick building has been a New Haven landmark for over two centuries. It is on several Registers of Historic Places and contains a large, traditional congregational sanctuary and a modern, lower level function hall.
The Main Sanctuary
This traditional worship space is suitable for lectures, forums, musical performances and other public and private events. There is pew seating capacity for 500-800 on the main floor with additional balcony seating of 200. There is an ADA access ramp and a single-occupant elevator with outside access. A sound reinforcement system, Steinway piano, Hildebrand Organ (usage by permission of UCG Music Director) are provided. There is an ADA accessible single-person lavatory. The space is heated but not air-conditioned. Sexton- monitored security is provided for all events.
The Bradley Room
A 1,500 sqft, open function room suitable for meetings, lectures, forums, dinners and informal gatherings. Table seating for 50, lecture seating for 75, ADA accessible via single- occupant elevator, heated and air-conditioned, audio visual equipment: video projector, screen, sound reinforcement system with wireless microphone, small serving kitchen, Sexton-monitored security provided during events. There are also two small “break-out” classrooms with A/V capabilities.
Located at 323 Temple St. (on the corner of Wall St) this (circa 1961) two story brick building is multi-functional. It contains one large and one small meeting room, a commercial kitchen, offices for our staff and the United Community Nursery School. We currently offer the following rental opportunities.
350 sqft, tables seating capacity for 16, lecture seating capacity for 36, audio visual equipment: video projector, screen, sound reinforcement system with wireless microphones, air conditioned. Sexton-monitored security during events. Not ADA accessible.
1,600 sqft open hall for lectures, performances or large meetings, table seating for 75, lecture seating for 100, separate adjacent commercial kitchen, audio visual equipment: video projector, screen, sound reinforcement system with wireless microphones, upright piano, air conditioned, Sexton-monitored security during events. Adjacent ADA lavatories.
Office Space (Annual Leases)
Small (175 sqft) self-contained, lockable office spaces on the 2nd floor. Annual rentals including utilities (heat and electric). Use of other UCG facilities for programmed events is also possible for additional fees. Off-street parking available for additional fee. Not ADA accessible.
Off street commercial rate parking is available at multiple nearby locations during normal business hours. After 6pm and on weekends parking behind our Parish House is free of charge.
